Straw Bale House
A two storey structural straw bale house using the local vernacular for the North elevation - it looks like a traditional cob house from the area with a contemporary glazed South elevation and car port. South and Western walls have a rain screen in front of the straw bale walls to protect them from Cornwall's horizontal rain.
A very environmentally sensitive house - a code level 4 BREEAM 'sustainable home' that neverthless looks beautiful
Materials: Oak,larch, chestnut & douglas fir frame; granite plinth; structural straw bale walls earth & lime rendered; some timber panel walls; Spanish slate walls
